If you weren’t able to make our Prepare to Practice: Legal Research Workshop last week, you are now able to view a recording of the session via Tegrity.
Here is an overview of what we covered:
I. Ramsey Donnell, Reference Librarian, discussed the legal research process and suggestions for where to start when you first get a research assignment, using The Law Student’s Guide to Free Legal Research on the Internet as a guide for the discussion.
II. Jamie Sommer, Student Services Librarian, gave a refresher on legal research resources focusing on print resources including encyclopedias, treatises, statutes and case law. (Download slides from Research Resources: Secondary Sources, Statutes and Cases presentation – pdf)
III. Tom Keefe, Instructional Services Librarian, covered free and low-cost electronic resources and provided advice regarding the use of Lexis and Westlaw in a firm environment vs. in law school. He also presented his survival tips for summer and new associates. (Download slides from Free and Low-cost Legal Research Resources presentation – pdf)
