This Saturday, December 2, the reference desk will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in deviation from our normal hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Otherwise, library hours are unaffected.

Student Circulation Assistant Position Available for the Summer

Would you like to make some walking around money this summer? Consider applying to be a circulation assistant for 10-20 hours per week, $12 per hour. The position runs from June 12 to July 28 with an opportunity to reapply at the end of the term. To apply, send a cover letter and résumé to Phyllis Finney at 8finney@jmls.edu.

Sample job responsibilities include:

  • Staffing the library circulation desk and assisting patrons.
  • Assisting with ongoing bar coding and inventory projects, including entering records into the library catalog.
  • Shelving books in accordance with the Library of Congress call number system, filing loose-leaf publications, and “shelf-reading” to ensure the collection remains in proper call number order.
  • Shifting, packing, and/or discarding materials throughout the library.

Note that you must have completed 29 credit hours for spring semester employment, and you must be eligible to participate in the Federal Work Study Program.

Need some snacks? The library will be providing noshes at the following times over the next week:

  • Monday, May 8 (8 a.m.)
  • Tuesday, May 9 (2 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, May (10 a.m.)
  • Thursday, May 11 (2 p.m.)
  • Monday, May 15 (8 a.m.)

Depending on the day we’ll have bananas and doughnuts or cookies, and coffee all around! Come on by the 6th floor to keep your blood sugar up.

The John Marshall Library Celebrates Women’s History Month

Women's History Month 2017 DIsplay

March is Women’s History Month, so please stop by the library and enjoy the display on the 6th floor by the elevators. The display, curated by Phyllis Finney, features a variety of books, images, and quotes highlighting the important role of women in the law and in a more general context.

The John Marshall Law School Celebrates Black History Month

Each year Phyllis Finney, the library circulation coordinator, heads up Black History Month for the Louis L. Biro Library at the John Marshall Law School along with Professor Kevin Hopkins. Phyllis commemorates and celebrates the contributions of people of African descent to our nation.  This year Finney chose the theme of African American chefs, their recipes, and where it all began. Students, faculty and staff, and alumni are encouraged to stop by the 6th floor of the library to check out the display.

Finals Snacks!

The library wants to help make things at least a little easier for you during exams. With that in mind, we’ll be providing snacks at the following times (there until they’re gone):

  • Thursday, December 1 (8 a.m.)
  • Monday, December 5 (2 p.m.)
  • Tuesday, December 6 (2 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, December 7 (8 a.m.)

We’ll have donuts or cookies every time and bananas on Monday and Tuesday. Coffee all four! Come on by the 6th floor to fuel up.
